These are a series of drawings executed over a period of two years. The work instigated a conference paper on the teaching and learning of innovative drawing techniques. It focuses on drawing that releases intuitive thought as opposed to rational thinking. My research is into teaching techniques that promote spontaneity and release mark making that is unencumbered by doctrine and formal teaching techniques.
A good play should ask questions not answer them. Sue’s illustrations do exactly that: they provoke the reader to ask questions which enrich the experience of reading or viewing by going to the play’s emotional heart. What more could an author ask of an illustrator?
Over the past ten years, Sue has interpreted twenty-three of my plays and produced two posters.
